Where Washington Foodies Worship On Sunday Mornings

The Dupont Circle Farmers Market is the local Mecca for Washingtonians who take their foods seriously.  The market is open Sunday mornings and is set up on 20th Street between P and Q Streets

The produce is organic and is locally grown.  It’s fresh.  And it tastes different

The peaches are sweet and juicy.  You can eat the tomatoes without worrying about getting botulism.  And for the first time ever, I met some fresh currants!  They’re orange.

There are exotic mushrooms and cute little carrots.

There are few farmers selling meat from animals who actually grew up in a real honest-to-gosh barnyard and pastures where they munched organic grass.  They lead happy, healthy lives with no nasty hormones or chemicals.

If you want to grow an herb garden, you can get some beautiful specimens that got off to a healthy start.

And the flowers around this place are just totally awesome!

And I couldn't resist buying a loaf of rosemary sourdough bread!

I was even amazed at this wool, from happy sheep - although it was a little hared to really appreciate it in the 100 degree heat!

When I get home and take a nice, cold shower, I'll use some of these pure, home made soaps to wash off the sweat!

Pat, the herbs, flowers, and breads always a nice complement at a Farmer's Market to a wonderful extent but you all even had more than that with the yarn and soap. Your cooling yourself down with the humidity made me think of your upcoming Cape Cod trip I think you mentioned in an earlier post. Time to get out of Dodge (with Congress) in the dog days of August.

Patricia- I am drooling looking at these awesome photos you took! I love organics and it does taste different. Actually tastes like the real thing!

Oh, I just saw some awful consequences of GMO foods! Stay on organics. The FDA just agreed with Monsonto( they sleep in the same bed) that GMO foods do not have to be labeled as such! Scary!

I used to live not far off of Dupont Circle back in the 80's.  This post sure makes me miss it!

BTW, why are the sheep who gave the wool "happy"?

I am so jealous!  We have nothing like this here in the desert.  Walmart produce is the best we get.  I must be a foodie!

So residents of Washington DC just look like ordinary people. What a shocker.

I've been known to hit two different farmers markets on a weekend to get my summer fix of fresh veggies.  I have to eat enough REAL tomatoes now to get me through the winter when I refuse to buy them.

Hello Pat,
This is one of my very favorite places to go when we visit my brother in Great Falls.  This is a fabulous market.

Great photos, Pat.  I like the little caption when you hover over the top photo (cell phone guy is a real estate agent)  - who else would be on a cell in such a gorgeous place?

Pat- Beautifully done.  The visual would make anyone want to get in their car and head for the market.  Local and organic is a good thing.

Patricia - I can't resist buying beautiful soaps either, and I'm sure my shopping bags would be overflowing with all that yummy looking produce.  I'm never on a diet when I'm shopping at a farmer's market!

"Washington Foodies"

Interesting term.  Is that one you whipped up or is there really a foodie group in your area?

I absolutely love farmer's markets! We have them here too, but many towns stop them during the summer months because it is so hot!
