Christmas Eve at Pat's House

Twas the week before Christmas.

The tree was aglow.

With beautiful lights

Both high and low.

But the night before Christmas?

No lights on the tree -

The cord was all chewed

By a naughty doggie!

He sat on the sofa,

With his tail ‘tween his legs

And a sweet guilty face

“Please don’t yell,” he begged.

When Santa arrives,

Will he bring Willie coal?

Or will he leave goodies

In his food bowl?

The tree does look pretty

With glass bells and balls

But I still miss the lights

That brightened my halls.

Oh!  And to Andrea, no!  The cat didn't do it.

As we know, the cat wouldn't do it.  Maybe she'd play with the cord, maybe even pull it till it unplugged, but she wouldn't chew it.  That's doggie work.  Bad puppy, bad puppy.

Pat, very nicely done.  And a Very Merry Christmas Eve to you.

Well, the culprit is definitely caught.  Good thing there was no power or you might not have Willie anymore!

Love the poem, sorry about the lights.  I'm sure Willie is very sorry and will get the treats.  Merry Christmas.

I think Aunt Chris Ann needs to give Willie some Bitter Apple for Christmas so this won't happen again.  I spray my tree down with it every year.

Reminds me of the time my cat put one of the lights into her mouth, and closed his mouth, and then just sat there. Almost spooky to see the lower jaw glow like that.

Hi Pat - Poor Willie!  He didn't mean to be naughty.  He was just helping you.  After all, maybe that cord didn't belong there - it usually isn't there after all.  I vote for goodies for him.  Cute poem.

Patricia, Thank goodness your precious Willie did not hurt himself in his chewing of the electrical cord.  He did not know what he did was a no-no.  I vote Santa gives him treats not coal.  Merry Merry Christmas.

Pat, I love Margaret Rome looking on the bright side.  That's right...Willie probably saved you at least $2 in electricity.
