My AAA Card: A Handy Little Tool Of The Trade

AAA is just amazing.  They didn't pay me to write this post.  They just awed me with fabulous customer service.

Yesterday, my car didn't want to start, so my neighbor helped with a jump start.  All was fine until I pulled over to make a phone call on my way home from the office.  I turned off the engine and after about a fifteen minute chat, it just wouldn't turn over.

Nada.

Nothing!

Oops.

Now, I should mention that I left my house without my wallet, and all of my cash, credit cards, ATM card and my AAA card were all sitting on the cozy coffee table in my living room.  I did, however, have my check book with me.  Other than that, I might have qualified as a vagrant.

What to do?  I called AAA (I have their number stored on my I-Phone), and they were able to pull up my membership information over the phone.  They promised that a truck would be there within 40 minutes.

Within 5 minutes, I got a call from their jump start guy, as he pulled his truck up beside me.  I mean, talk about exceeding expectations!

It turned out my old battery was a goner.  AAA trucks always carry a supply of new batteries, and their guy offered to install a new one for a very reasonable price.  But wait!  I didn't have my credit cards.  I did have a check book, but not a shred of ID!  He took my check and sent me on my way with a brand new battery with a six-year warranty.

These guys have it down.

For a car-ignorant driver like me, they provide an extremely valuable service, and they do it really well.

I mean, wow!  These guys are turning into my new best friend!  They're at least as fabulous as my neighbor who got me off to a good start in the morning!

Pat, many moons ago, when Charlotte was in full bloom of new construction, I had called AAA five times to come out and rescue me from flat tires...each culprit being a roofing nail. On my fifth call, they said, you realize you only get five of these a year, and for me, what a deal. Rescued five times.  Every female should have a cell phone and triple A. Yes, they are great!

I love my AAA too. I have a funny story...I was in AAA on day and used the lady's room when I flushed the toliet my car key dropped in and down it went.  They laughed so hard at the counter we didn't recover my key but they did get me home and back to pick up my spare key. Cheers to whoever thought of starting such a great company!

Pat - I have been a loyal AAA fan for years and years. They have saved us more times than I can count. They also offer discounts on all sorts of things, too (hotels, trains). A nice side benefit.

Pat, Funny you should write this as I just got an offer in the mail 2 days ago and decided that I would pay for a one year membership. Based on your experience, I doubt I'll be sorry!

AAA never cease to amaze me.  They have a tremendous business model.  But, Pat, I have to say, um, did the car not starting in the morning not alert you to the possibility of near future trouble.  Just saying...:)

Pat,

It just doesn't get any easier than that when you're having car problems.

Hi Pat... even when I have had a new car that came with free roadside assistance service, I have never canceled my AAA membership.  Their level of service and reliability cannot be beaten.

It is just a good idea and especially for those in our business who spend so much time in the car!

Hi Pat...About 10 days ago we were in Fredericksburg, came out of Home Depot and found we had a flat tire (picked up a screw).  Called AAA and, without too long a wait, we were on our way.  It's worth every penny.  I've been a member since 1965.  Wow!

Pat - Been a member for many years. I have locked myself out of my car a few times and AAA came to the rescue. It is well worth the annual fee, just for the piece of mind, and the customer service has always been top notch. Then there are those discounts that come with the card... movie tickets, hotel rooms, etc.

Hi Pat!
I remember you saying yesterday that starting the car might be an issue...is this one time you wish you hadn't been right? 'o)

Pat,

I have NEVER been disappointed with AAA.  I haven't had to call them very often but when I have they have always exceeded my expectations.  They are very service oriented.

Pat- It seems like I have always had an AAA card in my wallet. A member since 1989. Thankfully have not had to use them lately.

Pat:  Congratulations and thank you to you for taking the time to mention a business when they did something RIGHT!  Typically you only hear the negative, so it was very refreshing.  I'm sure AAA thought so too ...

Stay safe ...

Pat - What a great job of customer service AAA did.  And little did they know you'd spread the word like you are!  Thank goodness for businesses that really care about their customers.

Pat, I had to call them recently as well....my battery died and I needed a new one which they put in right here!  Some people don't know if they have an emergency they can join on the spot and they will send someone over if they are not a member.  I absolutely agree with you, they give top notch service!

AAA is the best -- and every realtor(r)s best friend.  I was at a water treatment walk thru and my tire was slashed by some construciton debris.. AAA was there and got my little"donut" tire installed and they helped my out of a big jam.  The fees are definately worth it!

AAA is awesome - and always there when you need them.  I have my own story to tell from just yesterday.

The day before I got a parking ticket that included an expired registration - that somehow got past me with my move this summer.  Truck expired in November - but I swear I did not see the paperwork come in the mail.

In any event, I stopped by the DMV office and was done in 20 minutes.  I wouldn't have been able to go to DMV until Monday, as in California all government offices are closed on Fridays so the politicians have more money for their pet projects...or whatever.

In any event, I couldn't imagine not having AAA..

Thanks for the post, I'm going to go ahead and reblog this.

It is great to hear such a positive testimonial.  Sometimes people only spread the word about the negative experiences.  I'm so glad it all worked out for you.  It would have been a cold walk.

Hi Pat ~ Sometimes I wonder how Triple A does it - it's very inexpensive considering the service they provide.  You sure had a day of it. Yeegads!

I too can praise AAA for saving me in a pinch.  Early one day I was keeping a tight schedule and found myself unable to dodge an enormous pothole.  Ouch!  that hurt and sounded horrible.  Everything seemed fine, at least for the next mile.  A humming noise prompted me to pull over and realize I was now running on a totally flat tire.  No problem, I will get out the dummy tire and be on my way.  I know my wife subscribes to the AAA service, the card is in my wallet but I can handle this.  I moved the seats and pulled up 2 layers of carpet in my Honda Mini Van to get the spare.  I knew right where it was.  Then I just need the jack.  I knew right where that was too.  So I thought.  Opened the compartment and nothing.  All of the sudden I could picture exactly in my garage where the jack sits.  Not sure why it was there but it was there.  Probably some project I was working on unrelated to my vans tire that the jack came in handy for.  Thank you AAA!

I have the premium coverage and it is well worth it. They tow up to 100 miles to your preferred auto mechanic shop. When my brakes went out on the expressway, I was lucky to be driving slow and moved to the construction zone safely. AAA alerted police to come and check on me to make sure I was safe until they arrived with the flatbed tow.  I was amazed when the tow person was a woman and she did the job in 15 minutes!

In addtion, I do not shop often at target, but since they have 10%  discount for AAA cardholders, I think I will give it a try. I can always buy pampers for my grandchild. There are many more benefits. I will never give up my AAA.
