Great Washington, DC Neighborhoods: Cleveland Park
When I begin to work with a new buyer, their wish list usually includes things that only one DC neighborhood can deliver.
First, there is the location. If you live inCleveland Park, you can walk to anything that matters - a Metro station, restaurants with cuisine from many continents, the Uptown Theater, fine wine, and the National Zoo.
Oh, and there are the houses! They are amazing with a lot of history.
Cleveland Park was one of Washington's first suburbs, and many of the old Victorian and Queen Anne mansions were summer home where Washingtonians would go by horse-drawn wagons to get away from the typhoid of the swampy DC summers. And President Grover Cleveland led the way, building Red Top, the summer house he built for his new bride and that served as kind of the Camp David of its day. Red Top (named for its red roof) was torn down in the late 1920's, but many of these wonderful pieces of history have been beautifully restored with great care taken to preserve their original details and historic features.
There aren't many homes for sale in Cleveland Park right now. There are only five homes for sale, including just about the oldest house in the Washington on Newark Street for $3,495,000. But after the first of the year, we expect the inventory to expand.
