This is the Statue of Freedom that sits atop the Capitol Dome here in Washington. Ironically, much of the work that it took to cast the statue and get it to the top of the Capitol was done by slaves. Philip Reid, a slave who took over as foreman of the foundry where a bronze was cast, did not earn his own freedom until a year after the statue was completed and sitting on top of the dome.
I took this one about two blocks east of the Capitol this morning with a zoom lens that could turn me into the paparazzi! It was a Christmas present to myself!
