Urban Surprise!

DSC_0156My house is a couple of miles north of the White House, pretty close to downtown Washington.  The neighborhood, known as Crestwood, was built between about 1900 and 1940, and it's always been pretty dense - as most in-town neighborhoods are.

It's surrounded on three sides by Rock Creek Park, a lovely city oasis that is teeming with wild life, and once in a while, I see Bambi or her mom driving through the park going to or from work (that would be me driving to and from work - not the deer).

I just got home from my vacation, and while I was downloading some photos from the trip, I found this one - I took it about two weeks ago a block off of a really busy traffic artery and around the corner from my house.

At a recent neighborhood meeting, a spokesman from the National Park Service, which is responsible for Rock Creek Park, was responding to neighbors who were concerned about the deer population spiraling out of control.

We're afraid of hitting them with our cars.  They ate a the prize azaleas in front of a nearby house.

So, our friend from the Federal Government told us about a study that is costing taxpayers a couple of million dollars that "is being conducted to determine whether or not we have a problem."

Du-uh!

Why not spend the money on Bambi birth control?
